Silver moss listens
For the approaching footfalls
As love on the wind …
Silver moss listens
For the approaching footfalls
As love on the wind …
There is only love
Does the ear hear the truth
Or make up a lie about itself
Am I worthy of this
Surely others deserve more
So much time has passed
Days filled with unspoken tears
Fountains adorning monuments
To broken hearts
Promises and dreams
Rose gardens in winter
Sun fading low in the sky
Shadows frozen beside our lives
How can all this be
Look beneath the glare
The water’s flow has hidden
All the holding on
To dreams in summer sun
Green fields and wild flowers
Lavender touching the sky
Reaching into the heart
Filling her with promises
Letting the light reveal
All there ever was
Uncovering uncertainty
With memories of love
Snow covered landscapes
Memories frosting our lives
Talk of simpler days
Passing years in our youth
Moments without judgement
Remain in dreams
Thoughts crystallized
Formed in the twilight before
Ever there was
a way to remain
In the joy and laughter
of children
This then the dream
Forgotten at the gate
Sought in ten thousand shades
Of blue beneath a star dappled dome
Opened before
The world ever asked
To become
The life we once knew
Long shadows in ageless sand
Meaning is shifted by the tides
Waves wash away yesterdays
As feathers are lifted in the wind
Time is all I have to keep
And all now you’ve given up
Faded leaves are washed away
In snow melt seen turning to clay
Rivers run cold as the hills unfold
Letting down in their winter dreams
Maples will fill up-rushing again
For the sweetness of life to become
Was it hard to go with no hand to hold
at the crossroads when waking to dreams
I’ll wonder at this and a thousand things
In the days that are mine still ahead
For today you see I’ve no time to cry
No way to find all the tears
I’ll keep them for you to come when they’re due
In a place and a time left to find
I kissed you in the morning rain
Dreaming there along the Seine
The city seemed to melt beneath
Our ray of love unending
Walked hand in hand together there
Elysian fields remembered
the Champs-Élysées’ parade of life
filled the daylight with forever
Montmartre’s steps took away our breath
and wrapped in purple twilight
Watched sunset shadows wash the streets
and paint a starry night …
While raising a Chardonnay’s soft bouquet
We toasted the City of Lights
The ages past, to all of France
Her romance, and her sights
Yes, we’ll always have Paris –
like the Seine our mem’ries will flow
Love isn’t always all that we dream
yet always more than we know …
Wait-less and wondering
just this ringing
in my ears
Past tense unfolding
you from my hands
I’ve wandered why
did thought hold onto
Temptation and tempers
and tastes left lingering
at the moon rise
Fingers pointing
words remaining
Shadows in silver light
Send shivers up
my spine
Awaking still quaking
within a dream
Left lying
at the gates of hell
Wishing me well
Telling stories of
sometime lost longing
In the heart
of a child lingering
where he cried
As a mothers love
told the stories
Held the hand
of the man he would be
coming

There was a story
Told by sages
Of times
And trials
Lost to memory
Written in stone
Broken into
Forgotten sands
Such are the pages
History told
In voices
Long silent
Language unknown
Ears shuttered
Truth is not words
The best evidence
Only found
In the fires
Of mind!
