circles of love

“Fragile” – Assateague State Park, MD – photo by gfs

lost in flight
some storm tossed bird
finding reasons
to return to
the air
how to hold on
to the unseen
feels the ether
guides on the wind
one sacred place
still to call home
folding her wings
in the night
waiting again to lift
what remains
of forever finding love

Eclipse of the Moon

Poipu, Kauai Lunar Eclipse

a memory of being
present
walking
in all the times
known to us
~ hidden
in the discontent
and all the chatter
surrounding the coming
and going from places
dreamed or planned
or happening to be
such are the days
where flowers bloom
and moonlit nights
where love shines
tides ebb and flow
heedless of our whims

Heart of the World

Seasons of green pass in the ocean breezes
Unattached to the palms
Waving hello … and goodbye
All at once though never lonely
Never wanting to cling

A warms sun shares her loving kindness
Beaming as if with pride
Sharing her glow of love
as a radiant dawn opening
painted in amber and orange watercolors

The flowers learn from the sky
They mimic the light
Creating their feast for the eyes

Light of the Soul

Treetops near Freeport, ME – photo by gfs

How can there be words
without the ears to hear them
the pages writ in spelling
all the ways to listen in

to time spent in the heart
digging through the ruins
of the days spent in between
the dark nights of the soul

All the wing-ed’s crossing o’r
soaring through the pines
a sky the eye somehow missed
whites wisps electric blue

drift away the day’s remains
drifts to the earth as letters
leaving what was willed without
the embers slowly fading

Know thyself

Harvest Moon – photo by gfs
If I can’t find myself
could I ever find love
Is there a space and a time
an Alcyone sunset
Beyond the Valles Marineris
Soulfully wandering into a dream
Nothing is left to define
For all we’ve forgot is divine
The heart becomes etched
in sacred reflections of life
Yesterdays colors living forever
as Polaris and Crux came to see
A silver moon rising out in the blue
Uncovering all we ever have been

Let us listen …

“Moon and Evening Star” – photo by gfs

echoes in lost canyons
music of the spheres
living calls a song
ears touched by the feeling
longing to be heard
a voice on the wind
will wait forever
to share this mystery
always love has been
yet still hearts are stolen
night is broken
dreams forgotten
no matter the appearance
forests are more than trees
roses more than color
more than scent
what slipped through the cracks
in shattered dreams
returns to us
by the light
a rhapsody in teardrops
notes written
in stardust
on our hearts

Memories of Love

Blue Ridge Mountains – photo by gfs
On the edge of the sea
She touched my heart
through the look in our eyes
standing lost in this
forever dream

Feeling the cold water foam
over footprints left
in the sands of time
among the reasons
flowing into being

We are never alone when we listen
to the seabirds calling
or the will of the wind
In our hair touching
our forever souls

How could the cold ever enter
as an icy winter chill
bites through the fingers
aching like the heart
Lost by goodbye

There is an eternal Sun
to warm the sands our lives
painting new horizons
Shades of amber and gold melt
into memories of love

Haunted by Snow

“Snow in Pines” photo by gfs

Listen to snowfall
The hush all around
The sound of a voice
Sings soft in my ears
Calling days lit with wonder
Fears felt between
As the years
Grow together
Again
A snow squall of memories
Blanket this dream
Where you are the voice
Settling slowly
Drifting in the wind
Soft footsteps fade
into the shimmering
Light

Musings of the Heart

Otsego Lake – Cooperstown, NY – Photo by gfs

Shadows growing longer
into starlit
frozen skies
I would wait forever
now is all I have to keep
for musings of the heart to be
the dreams return from sleep

What have we lost
on this journey
into being
or gained without consent
even wonder
at the way
life interceded without asking
and still we hope

Prayers for healing
all the while what is wasted
are the words we didn’t see
the light in your eyes
the breath of summer wind
warming the skin
as if wrapped by a lover
trees weeping as autumn
